In addition to its many temples and and shrines, Kamakura has a string of beaches which might be describe as disgustingly dirty, covered in baking human flesh, empty, depressing, or even fun depending on your point of view and the time of year.

Zushi beach has a good view of Mount Fuji and is popular with wind-surfers.

Zaimokuza beach and the adjacent Yuigahama beach are an easy walk from Kamakura.

Continuing west, Shichirigahama beach is quite narrow, so the busy road that runs along side make this place particularly awful.

Finally, just beside Enoshima Island is Koshigoe beach. Very crowded in summer and a sight worth seeing!

Kamakura has many festivals and events throughout the year. A list can be found here.
