Nearest station: Kita Kamakura.

Not far from Engakuji temple is Meigetsu-in. Relatively small, this place is astonishing during the spring time cherry blossom season.

The grounds include a place to sit and contemplate the closed-off back garden as you sip a cup of awful Japanese tea (100 yen). Rice crackers are included so stuff your pockets! The karesansu(Zen) garden, raked sand, rocks and plants is worth a quick look though may not warrant prolonged contemplation. Both are best enjoyed with as much silence and as few people as possible, which precludes weekends and national holidays and all your noisy friends.
